[clears his throat] My friends, I'm Doctor Rodney McKay of the Atlantis expedition and as the facts of our heroic struggle against the Wraith and our untimely demise are already known to you in that light. I'd like to pass along some final thoughts. Now my extensive education, training, and first hand experience in the field of astrophysics has given me a unique perspective that few on Earth, or well, on any other planet for that matter, can match. I'd like to take a moment now to pass along that perspective to you. [picks up note cards] I'll begin with a few observations on a subject that is both near and dear to my heart: Leadership.
I once caught mono kissing a girl in Algebra club. Missed an entire month of school. Still the kiss was... uh... something. So it was probably worth it. April Bingham, cute blond. God, see I love blondes, especially with the...uh... short hair. Hm... Samantha Carter, if you're watching, the torch is still burning. Sadly, soon to be extinguished, But you should know. You are just so... uh... Well, you're great. Really, really, great, and I would go so far as saying that you're the hottest scientist that I've every worked with. In fact, there's not a night that goes by that I don't find myself-- Uh... Okay Ford, let's lose that. And let's bet back to... Leadership.
Never cared for dogs. Too much work, too needy, too unpredictable. I mean, you leave one door open. The tiniest little cracks and their gone. You look for them. You put up fliers. There's no use. And since your father refuse to pay for a license the animal shelter has no way of tracking you. You know, God knows what happen to that little guy. [sighs] Now cats, now that's a whole different story. Cats are self-sufficient, they're dependable, you shake the box, they coming running. Cynics would say it was the food, but my cat. See, I truly believe he enjoys my company. There's something very comforting about coming home from work at the end of the day and having a familiar face waiting for you, you know? Still... I digress. Where was I? Uh... [looks for his note cards] Right... Leadership.
That's another site I'll die without having seen. See, to be fair when you've traveled as much as I've traveled, you think that missing Niagara Falls would be no big deal, but you know what? It gnaws at you. A lot of movies I wish I'd seen now. Won't see now. Let me see. Never saw Grease even though I had a thing for Olivia Newton John when I was a kid. Always wanted to see Gandhi. I only saw he first half of the Sixth Sense. I always wondered how that ended. [stops and remember something] My sister. [sits up straight] Ford, if you cut everything else just... um... keep this part. Okay? Jeannie, it’s your brother, Rodney. Obviously. I want to say... um... I want to say something. Uh... Family is important. I've come to realize that because the people here have become a sort of kind of a surrogate family to me. I know what you're thinking. I've never really been the poster child for that kind of sentiment, but when one's contemplating one's own demise one tends to see things more clearly. I really do wish you the best. You know, and I'm sorry we weren't closer. Perhaps, if by chance, I make it out of this. Perhaps one day we can. And I would like that. Now if there's time I would like to go back to the subject of: Leadership.

McKAY: Oh boy. (He starts to row again.) Nice whale. Nice whale. You're my friend. You don't wanna eat me.
SHEPPARD: Give up.
(Suddenly John is sitting in the stern of the boat facing him. He folds his arms and smiles smugly at Rodney.)
SHEPPARD: You'll never make it. You're too weak.
McKAY (angrily): Well, thank you! Thanks for the encouragement! Way to help out!
SHEPPARD: Why would I wanna help you?
McKAY: Because I thought you ...
(A second John speaks from the seat behind him.)
SHEPPARD: It's not me, Rodney. Don't listen to him.
(Rodney turns and looks at him, then looks at the other, alien John in front of him.)
ALIEN SHEPPARD: You're pathetic. You might as well jump in.
(Bewildered, Rodney looks round to the real John.)
SHEPPARD: Don't be afraid.
McKAY: Oh, I have to get back. (He starts to row again.) I have to get back. That's my only chance.
ALIEN SHEPPARD: You're gonna die out here.
SHEPPARD: Shut up! Don't listen to him, Rodney.
McKAY (looking round at him): That's easy for you to say! Why don't you help me row?!
(Instantly and without transition, John is sitting beside him and they're each holding one oar. Rodney looks bewildered at John's disappearance from behind him, then looks round to find him beside him. He looks round to the front of the boat again briefly as John starts to row.)
SHEPPARD: You know, this really isn't as strange as you led me to believe.
McKAY (now rowing as well): Oh, yeah? (He points over his shoulder.) What about that?
(John turns to look at the place where he was just sitting. Now in the seat is a clown wearing a fright wig, full clown make-up with a sad, down-turned mouth painted on his face, clown clothes, a big floppy bowtie and white gloves. John turns and glares at Rodney.)
SHEPPARD: I hate clowns.
(They face the rear and start to row again.)
ALIEN SHEPPARD (smiling smugly): You can paddle all you want. You're not going anywhere.
McKAY (to John): He's right! I'm gonna die out here!
SHEPPARD: He wants you to be afraid. Don't give him what he wants. He can't really hurt you.
ALIEN SHEPPARD: That's where you're wrong.

McKAY: No, I believe him. He can't finish the coding without feeding. I understand exactly what he's doing, but he's far more versed at implementing it than I am. Maybe if I had a couple of weeks, but he's the only one that can do it in a day.
SHEPPARD: I don't know what to say, but the N.I.D. is not gonna provide us with a human for him to feed on.
McKAY: I know. It needs to be me.
(John's eyes widen.)
SHEPPARD: What?
McKAY: I want him to feed on me.
SHEPPARD (standing up): You wanna what?!
McKAY: Let him feed off me – get his strength back, then he can finish the coding and save Jeanie.
SHEPPARD: Then what? Force him to give you your life back? He's not gonna do that.
McKAY: Sharon died half an hour ago.
SHEPPARD: I don't understand. What happened? I thought the nanites were ...
McKAY: This time it wasn't a problem with the programming. It was a manufacturing defect. In layman's terms, the nanites ran out of steam while they were repairing her arteries. She bled out internally. There was nothing we could do. (He stares at John in anguish.) I can't lose my sister, John. How am I gonna explain it to her husband, to her kid?
SHEPPARD: That Wraith'll kill you.
McKAY: It's my choice to make.
SHEPPARD: No, it's not. You're an invaluable member of my team and you report directly to me.
McKAY: Really? You wanna talk about chain of command right now?
SHEPPARD: You are not doing this.
McKAY: She's here because of me. I can't fix the problem, but I can help the guy who can. Look, this was not an easy decision to make.
SHEPPARD (looking away): I can't.
McKAY (near tears): Please.
(John looks at him and the pleading desperation in his eyes.)
SHEPPARD (quietly): I'm sorry.

McKAY: What?! Uh, sort of between. Elizabeth -- you take grounding station two; I'll take grounding station one; Major -- you take stations three and four.
SHEPPARD: Whoa, whoa, wait a second -- where are stations three and four?
McKAY(indicating two points on a map of Atlantis): Here, and here. (The two points are at the edge of the city.)
SHEPPARD: And we are ...?
McKAY (indicating a point in the centre of the map): Here, yes. I need to get done quickly so I can start working on the subroutines, and Elizabeth was complaining about her knee the other day ...
SHEPPARD: Wait, wait, wait a second. Are these things even close to a transporter?
McKAY: Uh, yes, Elizabeth's is.
SHEPPARD: And mine?
McKAY: Uh, it's a brisk walk away.
SHEPPARD: And by 'brisk', you mean ... 'far'.
McKAY: By 'walk', I mean 'run'.
